Over on the Dark Souls Facebook page the following was announced:
DARK SOULS II: Into the Light, the comic based on the thrilling universe of Dark Souls II will soon be revealed through weekly pages reveal! Taste the graphic style with this teaser and get ready for an exciting side story written by Rob Williams and Andi Ewington with art provided by Simon Coleby.
At first I was like, all excited! And then I started getting skeptical. it’s no secret that I love the game Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls and I think they are the best thing since sliced bread. I would love toys and comics and anime based on the game.
Yet, there is a fear that it will take the fantasy the looseness of the world away and start to put a framework on the world that really has no framework outside of big dark demon has trapped the world and you have to grind your way through it. Sure there are covenants and NPC’s have some history and background but very loose at best, allowing the player’s imagination to fill in the blanks. I hope that the comic doesn’t destroy this.
I don’t want to know the whole story, the nitty grity details, but I would love to read about a character having to grind his way through the world, the character’s experiences and thoughts and maybe even confusion at how some of the world hangs together, without ever really giving it away.
I will be picking this up and reading it and reviewing it. You need not worry, I love the fantasy worlds of Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls and will continue to spread their good cheer throughout the Fwoosh cosmos.
